VEC was one of three local contractors who provided in-kind donations to the Robinson-Shuba Commemorative Statue at Wean Park in downtown Youngstown. The statue depicts the 1946 handshake between Jackie Robinson and his teammate, Youngstown native, George Shuba. Shuba was the only player on the Montreal Royals (part of the Brooklyn Dodgers organization) to greet Robinson at home plate after a three run home run.
